about

Hello, I'm Justin Paton.
In late November 2021, I was asked by Freq (freq.org.uk) if 'now' would record a Repeater Radio session for a show called
'Channel FREQ presents Winter Solstice broadcasting from the sub-aether at Repeater Radio' which would be broadcast on the 21st of December between 12pm and 12am.
Since the show was so long, the session wouldn't be the usual 15-20 minutes long but could be up to an hour long.
I said I'd love to, so I recorded all these tracks alone in my music room over a couple of days one-by-one rather than all in a row like a gig,
so that I could have different set-ups and instruments for each song.
After I finished recording, I mixed them together in an order, as if it were a gig or a DJ-mix, which is what was broadcast,
(The last track on this album is that broadcast mix), although I ended up recording more songs than were included in the broadcast.
Other than some pre-recorded drum machine (which died directly after recording!), all the takes are recorded live.
The songs are taken from various points over the twenty four years that 'now' has existed and I've included a new song that'll be on the next 'now' LP too.

I haven't performed a 'now' gig alone like this (usually there's a band of three or more players) but maybe I will one day as it felt interesting to play the songs in this unique and unfamiliar manner.

All songs written by Justin Paton, except 5 & 11 which were written by Justin Paton and Angela Last.

Thanks to Richard Fontenoy, who made all this happen and also made the cover art.
